John Paisley Miller, HLI

I cannot get a birth in English nor Scottish BMD for John Paisley Miller, nor anything in the censuses. He appears out of the blue in 1918 with his commission. One can see on MIC that "Paisley" has been added at the same time as "HLI 2 Lieut"

1896 Mar 24 Born Barhead, Renfrewshire. His father is a Baker Presumablty he added the Paisley to his name to reflect where he had been born

1901 census at 78, Cross Arthurlie Street, Barrhead, Renfrewshire

1911 cenus gives the family having moved to Springholm, Kirkcudbright. A village 6 miles NE of Castle Douglas.

1916 Jul. Landed in France

1918 Jun 26. The undermentioned, from Officer Cadet Units, to be 2nd Lts.: — HLI - John Paisley Miller

1920 Nov 10. Joined ADRIC with service no 1021. Posted to I Coy. Mother at 78 Victoria Place, Barr Head, Glasgow.

1922 Jan 17. Discharged on demobilisation of ADRIC

1922 Oct 31. The Firm of DINWOODIE & MILLER.. Hotelkeepers, King's Arms Hotel, Castle-Douglas, of which the Subscribers were the sole Partners, was DISSOLVED by mutual consent. The Subscriber John Paisley Miller, who has acquired the Business, will uplift all the debts due to the Firm, and discharge the debts and liabilities of the Firm, as at said date. Dinwoodie and Miller appear to have known each other for some time. They were both in I Coy ADRIC and joined the same day.

1927 Oct 26. The Firm of J. P. & W. MILLER, Hotelkeepers, King's Arms Hotel, Castle-Douglas, of which the Subscribers John Paisley Miller and William Miller were tlhe sole Partners, was DISSOLVED by mutual consent.
