1918 Aug 19 He is award a disability pension , presumably for whatever caused him to resign. The pension was to be paid until Aug 1930, and there is no indication at he died during this time.
1920 Aug 24. Joined ADRIC with service no 345. Posted to C Coy
1920 Nov 10. Christopher Lucey shot by Auxiliaries. Cafferata's diary says that Lucey was murdered by a mythical "Chichester", so who was Chichester? Cafferata says that Chichester was taken to Dublin under arrest and dismissed, and that he was later shot by the IRA while working as a bus conductor in England. I cannot trace such an incident, though the IRA were active in England at this time , for example a series of attacks in Feb 1921 in England . There is no death cert for any ex-ADRIC man at that time
1920 Nov 12. Resignation Accepted. This puts Goldthorpe in the frame for being Chichester
1921 census. Living with "wife" Edith Annie in Enfield. His wife Lily is meanwhile at 69, Mortlake Road, Ilford, Essex with their 2 children
1921 Jul 26 Decree Absolute published. Court for Divorce and Matrimonial Causes, later Supreme Court of Judicature: Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Files. 1920-1922 Series. Divorce Court File: 913. Appellant: Lily May Goldthorpe. Respondent: Douglas Goldthorpe. Type: Wife's petition for divorce . 1922 Jan/Mar. She remarried Samuel C Bayliss and the son Roy Douglas was brought up as Bayliss, married as Bayliss and died as Bayliss
1922 Jan/Mar remarried to Samuel C Bayliss . And is a widow in 1939 register living with daughter Angela Bayliss b 24 Mar 1916
I cannot find him after 1921 census. He does not marry in UK, and does not die in UK as Douglas Goldthorpe
Perhaps pointing to him being "Chichester"
Roy Bayliss was born 1909 as his son, but later changed to Bayliss. And the daughter Angela also changed her surname to Bayliss.
However here is an interesting entry in 1939 register for a couple at Sinclair Rd, Hammersmith. Douglas Goldthorpe was born 1 Oct 1886 and was a Draper. He was living with an Edith Annie in 1921 census, It is pointing to our man, but not conclusive
I pick up Douglas Hulland in London in 1929 with Edith Hulland. In fact the 1939 Register is the main place with "Holland"
1929 at Cambridge Place, London Electoral Roll with wife Edith Hulland, later 1932 at Abingdon Rd, Earls Court and in 1937 at Sinclair Rd, again with Edith as Edith Hulland, and him as Douglas Hulland
and also Edith Annie was possibly born Edith Annie Hulland (sic)
and he had military past, but I can find no commission for a Douglas Holland
