WW2 Details of his World War II service are hazy. He is reported to have served in the Abyssinian campaign, so perhaps he started in 1940.The family have a Christmas card he sent to his daughter Valerie from Egypt in 1941. But he was commissioned and was a Major when he died
1946 Apr 2. Died Italy. Towards the end of the war, William was stationed in Italy. He became very fond of the place, and made plans to move the family there, after his discharge. But he died in a plane crash while he was still in the service. After his death, Olive eventually moved with her three children from Krugersdorp to Hillbrow, in Johannesburg. They lived at the Sunnyside Hotel, and Olive worked as a bookkeeper.
