Peter Rochford

Constable Peter Rochford is best remembered for his love of the Ford car, but he was perhaps more remarkable as one of only two Irish members of the British Gendarmerie to have served in four different fighting forces:

the British Army, the Royal Irish Constabulary, the Palestine Gendarmerie

1910 Oct 5. He enlisted in the Leinster Regiment #9396

1914 Sep Posted to France but was invalided home at some point suffering from pneumonia.

He returned to the army after his recovery and went on to serve in the D

1919 May 9. Discharged - sickness as a Sergeant

1920 Feb 16. enlisted in RIC #70333. Farmer & ex-Soldier

1920 Mar 1. Posted to Mayo

1921 Jan 1. Promoted Sergeant

1922 Mar 24 disbanded

1922 Mar 25. enlisted in Palestine Gendarmerie as a Sergeant. Formerly a Permanent Sergeant in RIC

1925 Married Mary Maguire

 

he seems to have died 28 Oct 1979 at Trim (death records only online till 1970)
