1920 Oct 23. Writes to Army requesting to be put on Reserve of Officers. He writes his letter from Government House, Jerusalem. He signs himself as ADPS in Palestine Government and says he is a commissioned officer in Palestine Police.

1920 Oct 23. He writes another letter from Jerusalem asking that his retired rank be upgraded from Lt to Capt. He points out that he had "severe wounds in action"

1922 Apr 15. Assistant Police Superintendent who was drowned on duty; St Antonys College has papers relating to the death of the Palestine Policeman, Captain J. Mackenzie who drowned in the River Jordan whilst trying to rescue his Arab college consisting of photocopies of letters to Mrs Mackenzie offering condolences, pictures of his grave and memorial and biographical notes on Sir Herbert Samuel and Joan Watson.
