1918 Dec 2, Lt. (A./Capt.) John Wandrum Cawley, M.M., l/4th Bn., R. Berks. R., T.F. (ITALY) For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid. Although wounded at the start, he remained at duty and led his company to the assault. He personally killed several of the enemy, and led his men with great dash and courage until again wounded by a bomb. As a result of his fine leadership and careful preparation, his company gained all their objectives.
