1901 census living with his parents High Street, Lamberhurst (Kent). His father is a hoop-maker and cycle agent

1910 Mar 15. Signs up for RFA as a Territorial in Kent - his TA service record is available, and lies about his age claiming to be born in Deal in about Sept 1893 and not 1895. He gives his address as 14 Albany Terrace, Canada Rd, Deal

1911 census living with his parents at The Broadway Lamberhurst Kent. He is now a "painter and plumbers mate"

1914 Mar 3. Termination of his 4 year TA engagement

1914 Oct 12. 1117 Private Sydney Robert Redman embodied in the 1/1st Kent Cyclist Battalion. The battalion was at its war station at Canterbury, under the orders of 57th (2nd West Lancashire) Division for duties with the Kent and Sussex coastal defences at Swale and Rye, with a detachment on the Medway. It left the Division and moved on 2 December 1915 to Chisledon Camp and reorganised as an infantry battalion.

From this time on the unit did not use the word "Cyclist" in its title.  Together with 2/6th (Cyclist) Bn Royal Sussex Regiment , 1/9th (Cyclist) Bn Hampshire Regiment and 1/25th (Cyclist) Bn London Regiment, they formed a brigade originally intended for service in East Africa.

1916 Feb 8. There was a change of mind, however, and the battalion sailed for India . On arrival came under command of Southern Brigade, 9th (Secunderabad) Division and went to Bangalore.

1916 Dec. Moved to Burhan and the Ferozepore Brigade in 3rd Lahore Divisional Area.

1917 Feb. the Brigade transferred to the 16th Indian Division.

1917 Mar 4. until 15 April the battalion served as part of the North Waziristan Field Force.

1917 Jun 6. 275255 Private Sidney Robert Redman transferred to 1st Garrison Battalion The Somerset Light Infantry in India 6 June 1917. The battalion was part of the Rawalpindi Brigade in 2nd (Rawalpindi) Division.

1918 Mar 1. The Northumberland Fusiliers. 206255 Private Sidney Robert Redman transferred to 2nd Garrison Battalion The Northumberland Fusiliers in India and Mesopotamia

1921 Jan 19. Sydney R Redman born Kent circa 1895 enlisted in RIC. He was not in ADRIC. Posted Waterford

1921 Mar 19. Shot while driving a car involved in an ambush near Dungarvin. The Burgery Ambush

1921 Apr/Jun death registered for Sidney Robert Redman, age 24 at Dungarvan

1921 Oct. His relatives get £850 in a compensation case. The relatives of Sgt Hickey murdered in the same ambush also got £850.
