Lt Commander Fry - information from the trial of King
"Lt Commander Fry" can only be found during the trial of WL King for murder. He was a witness at the trial 14 & 15 April 1921
- A Hansard report says Lt-Commander Fry was employed as a civilian clerk in the office of the Chief of Police from 10 Jan 1921
- Fry was asked by the defence at the trial (report in Freemans) "had you not been intimately associated with his [Capt Kings] family.. and the association has been broken off...about 19 years ago" Fry agreed with all these questions and stated that he had not me King 19 years ago, and there was no friction between them today
- A G Fry joined RIC on 4 Jan 1921 and was awards extra pay as a Clerk at HQ on 9 Feb
- WL King lived in South Africa from 1901 to 1915
- AG Fry was stationed in South Africa from 1902 to 1903
- King had a sister, Agnes L King, who would have been 19 in 1902 and was living in London - the implication is that Fry had an affair with someone in King´s family and she is the most likely person. I cannot determine if she died before 1901 or not.
The British Transcription of the trial dos not seem to be available. However there is a very full report in Freeman´s Journal - without witness names. This is Fry´s testamony
