There are 2 J W Stott in ADRIC. The trick is to separate them. The man here is John William Stott who served in RNVR and got DCM and MM
1889 Jun 29. Born Hebden Bridge, Yorks
1889 Nov 30. Baptised.

1901 census at Weavers Square, Heptonstall

He was with the Rifle Brigade before his commission. Won both DCM and MM

1917 May 30 . Commissioned Sub.Lt This record says born 1884, but I think that is a mis-transcription for 1889. There is only 1 man of this name as an officer in RNVR, and this is he.

1918 Feb 13 Posted to France

1918 Dec 17 Repatriated

1921 Jun 6. Commission in RNVR terminated. He appears not to to have answered letters about an £8 overpayment.
1921 Sep 26. Services dispensed with in ADRIC
1923 Aug 19. He tries his luck in Canada. But later returns

1939 Register Living at 3 Stoney Royd , Hebden Royd U.D., Yorkshire with wife Minnie. He is a Blanker Raiser. The 'Dictionary of Occupational terms', says that a raiser or gigger 'minds a gig, a machine which cleans and raises a surface pile from body of cloth by means of rollers covered with wire brushes, or by means of teazles.' A blanket raiser would obviously be doing this work on blankets.
