Curious here, he is difficult to pin down. His father appears to be from the censuses as Alfred T Hawkins, but his Marriage gives Ernest James Hawkins. I cannot find a suitable Ernest James

At some point he is a Lt in RARO (Regular Army Reserve of Officers). I suspect the was called up early in the war
