James Bernard Burb(r)idge Gale (claimed DCM, but no DCM)

1883 Mar 13 Born Warwickshire. "James Barnett Burbidge" His name then takes a number of twists and turns. I suspect he had to use the Burbidge/Burbridge to get into the army the second time

1891 census at Chapel Rd, Feckenham, Worcs, His father was a Journeyman Baker.

1898 Sep 22. He is a Labourer when he joins Worcstershire Militia. He is discharged the very next day "Not likely to become an efficient soldier"

1901 census. I cannot find him

1911 census at 13 Hunnyhill Newport, Isle of Wight

1915 May 23. Lands in France. Corps of Military Police give his record as Awarded the 1915 Star, Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 23/5/1915. Formerly Lance Sergeant. 5 Dragoon Guards. No. 21715. Commissioned 2/Lt. Loyal North Lancashire Regt. 31/9/1917. Home address: 2 Orchard Road, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. James Bernard Burbridge Gale. I cannot find him being awarded DCM and they make no mention of it.

1917 Jan/Mar married in Paddington, London to Florence Bedford

1917 Jul 31. Commissioned 2nd Lt." James Bernard Gale " (sic) in L North Lancs,

1918 Aug 26. Gazetted. N. Lan, R. Temp. 2nd Lt. J. B. Gale to take rank and precedence in the Corps and in the Army as if his appt. as 2nd Lt. bore date the 1st day of June 1918. He appears to have been in trouble and lost a years seniority

1920 Aug 20. Joined ADRIC with service no 286. Posted to F Coy
