He displayed initiative and resourcefulness in an attack on 30th September on an enemy position near Fauquissart by going out sitinar his posts with the division on his right. He personally superintended the siting and occupation of his posts under heavy sniping and machine-gun fire. Throughout the day his cheerfulness and disregard of danger inspired his men with confidence
